Dr. Carson King-Fournier is one of the most in-demand performers and educators on trombone, bass trombone, euphonium, bass trumpet, and sackbut.

Carson performs on Bach Trombones

"The foundation for every great performer, teacher and student is a gorgeous, well-defined sound concept. A great instrument should ultimately become a mirror, reflecting back that concept. I've played professionally on Bach trombones for the better part of a decade because I am allowed effortless access to the sounds that are in my head, with an endless spectrum of colour and nuance."

World Premiere Performance: Lutcus et Laetificus for tenor trombone and string quartet

Composed by: Kari Sundström

Recorded live (unedited) on October 23rd, 2022 at Kracum Performance Hall at Carleton College.

About Lutcus et Laetificus, the composer said:

“It was the beginning of the pandemic, and all of a sudden nobody could play live concerts. I was struggling to find a creative outlet, so I turned to writing music. Luctus et Laetificus was one of the first things I wrote. The piece is in two contrasting movements: Luctus meaning ‘sorrow,’ and Laetificus meaning ‘joy.’ I originally intended it to be performed in a cathedral setting, thus the Latin title. Like much of my writing, one can hear a lot of influence from Dimitri Shostakovich, especially in the harmonies.“
